Valérie Schwitzgebel is an assistant professor at the Department of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Faculty of Medicine, and an assistant physician at the Development and Growth Division of the Geneva University Hospitals where she leads the Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Unit.

Her research focuses on the genetic basis of diabetes mellitus. Her laboratory investigates subtypes of diabetes mellitus by applying whole exome and genome sequencing in cohorts of children and adults; newly identified genes are then charactzerized using in vitro and in vivo models. Genetically instructed precision diagnosis of diabetes type 1 will further allow optimizing treatment to improve metabolic control and quality of life.
