Project at a glance
Philosophy of science examines conceptual foundations including cause, function, evidence, truth, and domain-specific concepts like genes. The group analyzes causal and functional reasoning in genomics, developmental biology, neuroscience, and evolutionary biology to inform discussions on research's societal implications. They critically evaluate philosophical causation theories and adapt them to biological contexts, extending "counterfactualist" approaches to complex causation. They also examine implications for biological knowledge and how scientific models represent reality.
