Project at a glance
My lab investigates on the genetic history and evolution of human populations through the molecular and statistical analysis of various genetic markers. This incudes the major histocompatibility complex HLA, mtDNA sequences, nuclear and Y-chromosome SNPs and STRs, polymorphisms of drug-metabolizing genes, among others. Our research also uses an interdisciplinary approach focusing on the comparison of molecular data with biometric data (e.g. human quantitative traits) and with linguistic, archaeological and other cultural information. We apply computer simulation to test alternative scenarios of modern human migrations and history. We are involved in the history of anthropology and the evolution of concepts related to human races.
