Project at a glance
Gene regulation by small noncoding RNAs and RNA modifications
The laboratory investigates mechanisms of eukaryotic genome-controlled gene expression. Research focuses on piRNAs (Piwi-interacting RNAs), approximately 30-nucleotide molecules expressed in germlines that bind Argonaute proteins to silence transposons and preserve genome integrity. Current work pursues biochemical and structural insights into piRNA biogenesis machinery and mammalian piRNA specification of genomic loci for DNA methylation. The group also examines how RNA modifications regulate gene expression, particularly exploring m6A modification writers, readers, and erasers. Research employs interdisciplinary methodologies across multiple model organisms, including flies and mice.
