Project at a glance
We want to understand in physical and molecular terms how cells talk to each other during development.
Research is highly interdisciplinary spanning physics, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics with team members trained in biology, physics, chemistry, and engineering. The group investigates signaling events controlling tissue growth, specifically how tissue shape and final size are achieved during embryogenesis. Focus areas include growth control by morphogen gradients and asymmetric cell division in stem cells, utilizing Drosophila and Zebrafish as model systems.
