Plant systematics and evolution
The group applies phylogenetic and genomic methods to examine plant systematics and evolutionary history. Key objectives include reconstructing the plant tree of life, refining taxonomic classifications, understanding the pace and patterns of evolutionary radiations, and determining genetic and ecological factors driving phenotypic variation—particularly traits relevant to plant-pollinator interactions such as flower coloration. Research concentrates on tropical plant families (Gesneriaceae and palms), while also analyzing genetic diversity in regional flora using contemporary and historical herbarium specimens as genetic resources through museomics approaches.
