Project at a glance
Translational research on disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis
The group examines genetic disorders affecting blood clotting and thrombosis. Research applies whole exome sequencing findings and functional cell analyses using transfected cells, zebrafish models, and patient samples for personalized treatment approaches. Primary focus centers on fibrinogen deficiencies—both quantitative and qualitative forms. The team investigates molecular mechanisms linking fibrinogen gene mutations to disease and explores factors affecting variable patient phenotypes, including modifying gene polymorphisms. Additionally, novel mechanisms regulating fibrinogen circulation levels are studied, clinically significant since elevated fibrinogen represents an independent cardiovascular disease risk factor.
