Project at a glance

Cancer cell adaptation, drug resistance and therapeutic vulnerabilities

Our research focuses on understanding how cancer cells adapt to therapeutic stress and develop resistance to treatment, with a particular emphasis on multiple myeloma and selected solid tumors. We investigate the cellular pathways that regulate protein homeostasis, stress responses, tumor-microenvironment interactions, and extracellular vesicle-mediated communication, and how these processes contribute to cancer progression and drug resistance.
A major objective of the laboratory is the discovery and characterization of novel anticancer agents from natural and synthetic sources. By combining cell biology, pharmacology, and translational research approaches, we identify molecular targets and mechanisms of action, while evaluating therapeutic vulnerabilities that can be exploited to improve cancer treatment.
We integrate molecular and cellular biology, advanced 3D co-culture models, omics approaches, and functional studies to understand how adaptive responses arise and shape tumor behavior. This knowledge provides a framework for the development of innovative therapeutic strategies aimed at preventing cancer progression and overcoming treatment resistance.
