Project at a glance
The main interests of our lab are the molecular mechanisms underlying airway epithelial cell repair in the context of cystic fibrosis, an infectious and pro-inflammatory genetic lung disease.
Gap junctions interconnect airway epithelial cells that constitute the respiratory epithelium. In cystic fibrosis, electrochemical signaling between epithelial cells is altered. The research aims to understand molecular links between CFTR dysfunctions and abnormal gap junctional intercellular communication on airway epithelial cell integrity, and to identify key transcriptional pathways in human lung repair that are deregulated in cystic fibrosis. Better understanding is required to optimize therapeutic strategies reducing severity of airway disease causing irreversible lung damage.
