The mammalian circadian timing system: the daily rhythms of genes, cells, and organs

In mammals, most physiological processes are subject to daily oscillations that are driven by an endogenous circadian timing system. This system is composed of a master pacemaker in the brain’s suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and subsidiary oscillators in virtually all body cells. Our research group uses state-of-the-art molecular technologies to dissect the circadian clockwork circuitry and the signal transduction pathways by which the SCN synchronizes cellular clocks in peripheral organs.
