Prix de la Fondation Leenaards pour la recherche biomédicale translationnelle

L’un des trois Prix Leenaards 2023 pour la recherche biomédicale translationnelle est attribué à la Dre Indrit Bègue du Département de Psychiatrie de l’UNIGE et des HUG, à la Pre Camilla Bellone du Département des Neurosciences Fondamentales de l’UNIGE, membre d’iGE3, et au Dr Jonas Richiardi du Département de Radiologie Médicale de l’UNIL et du CHUV, pour le projet de recherche intitulé S’attaquer aux symptômes négatifs de la schizophrénie via le cervelet. Ce projet propose une approche innovante pour contrer les symptômes dits négatifs de la schizophrénie, une maladie psychiatrique qui touche près de 85 000 personnes en Suisse.

Cette distinction sera remise aux lauréats le 23 mars 2023 à Lausanne lors du Rendez-vous Leenaards Sciences & Santé. Nous les félicitons pour cette récompense, et leur souhaitons plein succès dans la poursuite de leurs travaux.

It is our pleasure to congratulate the winners of the iGE3 PhD salary awards 2022 !

At the end of this 10th round of selection, 3 PhD awards could be given to graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 faculty members for the excellence of their application.

The awardees will present their project during the 11th iGE3 Annual Meeting that will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Louis-Jeantet Foundation in Geneva.

Krieg Cortical Kudo 2022 à Denis Jabaudon

Pr Denis Jabaudon, directeur du Département des Neurosciences Fondamentales de la Faculté de Médecine de l’UNIGE, médecin consultant au Service de Neurologie des HUG, membre d'iGE3, est lauréat 2022 du Krieg Cortical Kudo décerné par la fondation américaine de promotion des neurosciences Cajal Club. Denis Jabaudon travaille sur les programmes moléculaires et génétiques qui contrôlent la formation des circuits neuronaux corticaux. Le Cajal Club récompense ainsi ses importantes contributions à la compréhension du développement cortical. Nous lui adressons nos félicitations.

Les Krieg Cortical Kudos sont attribués chaque année, pour des travaux exceptionnels dans la recherche sur le cortex cérébral, à des scientifiques de 3 niveaux professionnels différents: Discoverer, Explorer et Scholar.

Ce prix sera remis en novembre 2022 lors du congrès de la Society for Neuroscience à San Diego aux Etats-Unis.

10th iGE3 PhD Salary Awards

For graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 faculty members.

We are happy to announce the 10th round of the iGE3 PhD Salary Awards. Similar to the past years, these stipends will be given competitively to graduate students working in the laboratories of iGE3 members, for projects with a strong genetics or genomics component.

The graduate students have to be in the 2nd or 3rd year of their studies (on December 1, 2022), and the salary awards will be provided for 2 years, non-renewable. The final selection will be made by an external (non-UNIGE) advisory board. The stipends should be acknowledged in publications as iGE3 PhD Student Awards.

Please note:

  • up to 4 PhD awards should be given in this 10th round of the doctoral training support;
  • one application per laboratory will be accepted per call;
  • students from laboratories with awardees from 2021 are not eligible, i.e. lab of Profs M. Barberon, P. Castets, C. Jandus, E. Nagoshi, S. Nef and R. Pillai;
  • the announcement of the final selection will be made by Monday, October 10, 2022;
  • the successful applicants will present their project at the 11th iGE3 Annual Meeting on Monday, November 7, 2022;
  • the contracts will start on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Prix Joseph Altman en Neurosciences Développementales
à Denis Jabaudon

Denis Jabaudon distingué par la Société Japonaise de Neurosciences

Pr Denis Jabaudon, directeur du Département des Neurosciences Fondamentales de la Faculté de Médecine de l’UNIGE, médecin consultant au Service de Neurologie des HUG, membre d'iGE3, est le lauréat 2022 du Prix Joseph Altman en Neurosciences Développementales décerné par la Société Japonaise de Neurosciences (JNS). Spécialiste de la formation des réseaux corticaux, Denis Jabaudon s’intéresse à la compréhension des programmes moléculaires et génétiques qui contrôlent la formation des circuits neuronaux corticaux. Nous le félicitons pour cette récompense.

Le prix Joseph Altman a été créé en l’honneur de ce biologiste américain, après son décès en 2016, connu pour les travaux importants sur la neurogenèse dans le cerveau adulte qu’il a menés dès les années 1960.

La cérémonie de remise du prix aura lieu durant NEURO2022, meeting qui se tiendra à Ginowan au Japon du 30 juin au 3 juillet 2022.

Christian Lüscher récompensé par la FENS

Pr Christian Lüscher, du Département des Neurosciences Fondamentales de la Faculté de Médecine de l’UNIGE et du Service de Neurologie des HUG, membre d'iGE3, est l’un des deux lauréats du Prix de la Fondation Chica et Heinz Schaller en Neurosciences Translationnelles 2022, remis par la Fédération des Sociétés Européennes de Neurosciences (FENS). Cette distinction récompense des recherches de niveau exceptionnel dans le domaine des sciences translationnelles, dont l’objectif est le développement de nouvelles approches cliniques sur la base de nouvelles connaissances fondamentales du système nerveux. Spécialiste des addictions, Christian Lüscher s'intéresse à l'altération des circuits cérébraux qui sous-tendent l’addiction à différentes drogues et aux mécanismes neuronaux du comportement motivé. Nous lui adressons nos félicitations pour cette distinction.

Fondée en 1998, la FENS représente des sociétés et des chercheurs venant de 33 pays européens. Elle décerne le prix de sa partenaire la Fondation Chica et Heinz Schaller, organisme d’utilité publique créé par Chica Schaller and Heinz Schaller, et domicilié à Heidelberg, en Allemagne.

Friedrich Miescher Award to Paul Guichard

Paul Guichard receives the Friedrich Miescher Award 2022

Paul Guichard, professor at the Department of Cell Biology of the Science Faculty of the UNIGE, and iGE3 member, will be awarded the Friedrich Miescher Award 2022 for his work on the structural mechanisms governing centriole assembly.

In order to directly visualise the molecular nature of the centriole at the nanoscale, he developed a new protocol to study the cellular architecture with a molecular resolution called Ultrastructure Expansion Microscopy (U-ExM). Thanks to this method, his group is now able to reveal the molecular nature of the architectural elements of the centriole and other organelles with an unprecedented resolution.

The award lecture will take place on February 18, 2022 during the LS2 Annual Meeting.

Prix Curt Stern à Emmanouil Dermitzakis

Emmanouil Dermitzakis lauréat du Prix Curt Stern 2021 décerné par l’ASHG

La Société Américaine de Génétique Humaine - American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) attribue le Prix Curt Stern 2021 au Pr Emmanouil T. Dermitzakis, du Département de Médecine Génétique et Développement de la Faculté de Médecine de l’UNIGE, directeur d’iGE3. Ce prix annuel rend hommage au généticien Curt Stern et récompense les chercheuses et chercheurs en génétique et en génomique qui ont apporté des contributions scientifiques importantes au cours de la dernière décennie.

Emmanouil Dermitzakis est l’un des spécialistes mondiaux de la variation fonctionnelle du génome humain et du potentiel transrégulateur du génome. Il a été l’un des premiers scientifiques à révéler l’importance de l'ADN non codant dans l’évolution et la susceptibilité aux maladies. Ses travaux fondamentaux sur l’évolution des éléments régulateurs ont ainsi montré la nature dynamique des séquences régulatrices. Il a par ailleurs joué un rôle de premier plan dans de nombreux grands projets internationaux de génétique. Nous le félicitons pour cette distinction.
