Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance: impact for biology and society

The Latsis Symposium 2017 will be held on August 28 to 30, 2017 at the ETH Zurich.

The main aim of that symposium is to discuss the breadth of biological phenomena involving epigenetics and their importance for transgenerational inheritance. The conference focuses on the issue of cross- and trans-generational inheritance of traits acquired by environmental exposure and personal experiences, a major mode of transmission that works outside classical Mendelian inheritance.

The Latsis Symposium 2017 is motivated by the wish and strong need to discuss and debate about the novel field of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance, an emerging discipline that is currently revolutionizing biology and is bringing novel perspectives for medical research and the society. The field addresses a key question in biology: what mediates heredity. The symposium is supported by the Latsis Foundation.

  7. OptoDBS 2017

    OptoDBS 2017 banner

Pathological circuit function is at the origin of many symptoms of neurological disorders. The optogenetic toolbox applied to animal models of behavioral diseases has in the last years led to decisive progress with the hope that deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be used for rational treatments.

OptoDBS 2017, that will take place on June 22 to 24, 2017, at the Campus Biotech in Geneva, will discuss the state of the art of current therapies for DBS and ask how a better understanding of neural circuit dysfunction in pathology could inspire novel protocols. A particular emphasis will be on novel DBS indications such as obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), depression or addiction. Cutting-edge optogenetic presentations will interleave with clinical studies from leading experts.

Organizers: Paul Krack and Christian Lüscher.
